Why CGP Group Is Consolidating Four ATSs into One AI-Native Platform

Company: CGP Group (Cornerstone Global Partners)

Who: 200 people, 12 offices

What: Executive search, contract staffing, and EOR across APAC, the Middle East, and the US

Before Spott: Mercury, Bullhorn, and Vincere, simultaneously, plus a patchwork of point tools

Most agencies replace one ATS. CGP Group is replacing three at the same time.

The firm, 200 people across offices in Asia, the Middle East, and the US, had accumulated Mercury, Bullhorn, and Vincere across different parts of the business, supplemented by a stack of point tools for sequencing, sourcing, and dialing. When CEO Chris Watkins kicked off a company-wide digital transformation, consolidating the ATS layer was only the starting point. The real goal was to put AI at the core of how the firm recruits: matching, outreach, and the data upkeep that eats recruiter hours, handled by the platform itself.

"By automating and centralizing everything, it makes life easier and delivers real impact for us at scale."
Chris Watkins, CEO, CGP Group

What a 200-person firm looks for

Chris and his team did the deep dive themselves: dozens of platforms compared, the legacy players they already ran, and the new AI generation alongside them. Their requirements cut the field down fast:

  • AI-native, not AI-bolted-on. CGP had watched established platforms relaunch with an "AI strategy" layered over fifteen-year-old data structures. They wanted AI as the architecture, not the marketing: candidate matching, automated campaigns, and profiles that keep themselves up to date, built into the platform rather than taped on top.
  • API agility. A firm at CGP's scale lives on integrations. The platform underneath has to expose real APIs, webhooks, and custom data, not a closed box with a connector marketplace.
  • A partner that moves at their speed. "We like the fact people are smaller, because we can talk with the founders," Chris said on the first call. "I'm a founder. We can understand each other and help each other build each other's businesses."

The rollout

CGP is bringing 200 users onto Spott across 12 countries. The cadence tells the story: training sessions run weekly across APAC time zones, and CGP's leadership and engineering team hold a standing weekly sync with Spott's product and engineering side.

That second meeting is the unusual part. CGP's developers ask for API capabilities (webhooks, endpoints, filters) and Spott ships them, often within the week, sometimes the same day. On a recent call, requests from the previous week came back as a checklist: done, done, shipped in today's release.

If you're betting your AI transformation on a platform, what you're really buying is how fast the team behind it moves. Not the initial feature list.

"I think we've nailed the two biggest things I was most concerned about," Chris told the team on a recent sync.

The bigger picture

CGP's bet mirrors what we see across the industry: the firms winning the next decade are not the ones with the most tools, but the ones whose platform does the work for them, with AI that matches, drafts outreach, and keeps the database clean while recruiters recruit. Four ATSs in parallel was the cost of the old generation. An AI-native platform with open APIs is the entry ticket to the new one.

Frequently Asked

  • Can Spott support large multi-country rollouts?

Yes. CGP Group is bringing around 170 users onto Spott across 12 countries, with phased onboarding and weekly training sessions across time zones. Larger rollouts typically run region by region, with power users trained first and a standing sync with Spott's team to handle questions and requests as they come up.

  • Does Spott have an open API?

Yes. Spott exposes a public API with webhooks and support for custom attributes, so you can connect your website, reporting tools, or your own systems on top of the platform. Integration requests are handled directly by Spott's engineering team and often ship within days.

  • Can one platform serve multiple recruitment verticals at once?

Yes, and increasingly that's the advantage: one database across desks surfaces crossover candidates siloed vertical tools structurally miss. Spott customers run finance, tech, industrial, and life-science desks on the same instance.
