Software engineer (Backend)

About the Role

Spott is a YC-backed AI startup based in Leuven, Belgium. We are building the first AI-native recruitment platform (ATS and CRM) that helps professional recruiters close more placements and helps everyone find the right job more easily. Recruitment is a $700B+ industry still running on outdated methods, and Spott is a full reset, not an add-on to legacy software.

We are looking for a backend-focused Software Engineer to build core product features, improve backend code, and set technical direction for major parts of the platform.

Responsibilities

• Build backend features for our recruitment platform using TypeScript and Node.js.
• Work on core product features and backend code improvements, ensuring systems support customer growth.
• Set technical direction for major backend areas, lead design discussions, and review code to keep quality high as the team scales.
• Collaborate in a supportive, open, fast-moving environment where you can learn and grow quickly.

Requirements

• Master's degree in IT, Computer Science, or Software Engineering, preferably with at least 2 years of backend development experience.
• Passion for solving complex technical challenges and designing scalable software solutions.
• Ability to understand technical tradeoffs and make pragmatic decisions.
• Experience mentoring engineers, raising the technical bar across a team, and influencing architecture decisions beyond your own scope.
• Experience building AI-driven applications, with prompt engineering or fine-tuning experience as a plus.
