Forward Deployed Engineer

About the Role

As a Forward Deployed Engineer at Spott, a YC-backed AI startup, you will embed with our largest customers to understand their workflows in detail, then build what they need directly into our AI-native recruitment platform. You will work hands-on with TypeScript and Node.js, developing integrations, data migrations, and customer-specific solutions, and turning recurring needs into core product features. This is a customer-facing technical role with significant ownership, bridging our biggest accounts and our product and engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Embed with our largest customers, learn their workflows in detail, and build what they need straight into the product
• Develop backend features on our recruitment platform, primarily using TypeScript and Node.js
• Build integrations, data migrations, and customer-specific solutions, then transform recurring ones into core product
• Act as the technical bridge between our biggest accounts and our product and engineering teams
• Set the technical direction for the parts of the backend you own, lead design discussions, and review code to keep quality high as the team scales

Requirements

• Master's degree in IT, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent
• Preferably at least 2 years of experience in backend development
• Desire to be in front of customers, comfortable sitting with leadership teams to understand how they work and translating that into buildable solutions
• Passion for solving complex technical challenges and designing scalable software
• Experience building AI-driven applications, prompt engineering, or fine-tuning is a plus
• Comfortable with ambiguity and happy to travel occasionally to customer sites
